Panasonic Disc Manufacturing Corporation of America (PDMC) has extensive experience in the development of DVD technology. PDMC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI). Matsushita, better known as its brand name Panasonic (http://www.panasonic.com), was a key participant in the research and development of DVD technology in Osaka, Japan.

With its mission to promote DVDs to the public, 1996 saw Matsushita establishing Panasonic Disc Services Corporation (PDSC) in Torrance, CA. This was the first North American manufacturing plant fully dedicated to the replication of DVDs.

As the DVD market began to grow, PDSC, through a partnership with Universal, added a second manufacturing facility in Pinckneyville, IL in 1999. PDSC also recognized the tremendous potential of the international DVD market. A joint venture with Kodak in 2000 led to two other global DVD facilities in Ireland and Mexico. Shortly thereafter, a London office was established to facilitate European operations.

In 2001, PDSC launched its logistics division with the acquisition of a full-service distribution center in Memphis, TN.

On June 26th, 2002, Matsushita sold PDSC to Thomson Multimedia.

Matsushita retained the Torrance facility, which housed PDSC's replication and packaging areas for game discs as well as its compression and authoring business. The entity was initially named Matsushita Disc Manufacturing Corporation of America (MDMC). In April 2003, the company's name was changed to PDMC to capitalize on public recognition of the Panasonic brand.

PDMC is committed to continue its optical disc business in the United States, supplying software replication services to the game industry. PDMC will continue to invest in further promoting the use of DVD through research and development efforts in recordable discs, next-generation optical disc technology and other software-related businesses.

Matsushita Electric established PDSC to create and promote the DVD software market. As a result, more than 17,000 titles are available today in North America. PDSC succeeded in accomplishing its mission to promote the DVD format; PDMC will continue in this tradition, developing and introducing new optical disc applications and technology for our ever-changing marketplace.
